May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Hello Heart of Home Visiting Community,

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to stop and recognize the importance of emotional well-being for children, families, and the home visitors who work alongside them every day.

In home visiting, mental health shows up in so many ways:

  • a parent trying to stay calm through stress,

  • a child learning to trust and connect,

  • a home visitor carrying the emotional weight of supporting others,

  • and the small moments of safety, connection, and repair that help relationships grow.

One of the most powerful things we can offer families is the experience of feeling safe, seen, and supported.

That’s why we created our Safe, Seen & Supported course to help home visitors strengthen relationship-based practices that promote emotional safety, reflective connection, and resilience for both parents and children. The course explores practical ways to:
    build trust and emotional safety
    recognize stress responses with compassion
    support co-regulation and connection
reflect with families instead of “fixing”
care for yourself while caring for others

Mental health support doesn’t always come through big interventions. Often, it happens in everyday moments:
a calm voice,
a reflective question,
a repaired interaction,
or simply helping someone feel less alone.

As we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to thank you for the meaningful work you do. The relationships you build matter deeply.
